✅ In this post, I discuss the application of ‘Alkaline Electrolyzers’ and the major companies and their Alkaline Electrolyzer specification.

? First, a short introduction to ‘Hydrogen Production’ and ‘Electrolysers’!
Large-scale hydrogen production through low-cost “Alkaline Water Electrolysis” using renewable energy sources is viable. However, the performance of Alkaline Water Electrolysers (AWEs) suffers due to the fluctuating nature of renewable energy sources at low loads.


? Currently, three electrolytic hydrogen methods are commercially available.
1 - Alkaline Water Electrolysers (AWEs).
2- Proton exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers, and
3- Solid Oxide Electrolysers (SOEs),


? The following types of electrolysers are also on a development scale:
a- capillary-fed electrolysis cell (CFE)
b- Anion exchange membrane (AEM)

‘What are the major Alkaline Electrolyzer manufacturers?’

⏭️ 1- Humble Hydrogen (HH) High-Pressure Alkaline electrolyzer

HYPALE Series = “4MW”

a- Single stack up to 800 Nm3/h
b- Delivery Pressure 0-35 Bar
c- Hydrogen Production Capacity 4000 Nm3/hr
d- Hydrogen Delivery Temperature 45℃

⏭️ 2- NEL Atmospheric Alkaline Electrolyzer

A series = “2.1 MW”

• Net Production rate 300 to 485 Nm3/h
• Production Capacity Dynamic Range 15 to 100% of flow range
• Process Room Temperature 2 to 40 ℃

⏭️ 3- Green Hydrogen Systems

X-Series = “6 MW”

a- Hydrogen production: 1200 Nm³/hour (107 kg/hour)
b- Cell stack efficiency: 51.9 kWh/kg Hydrogen
c- Outlet pressure: 35 bar(g)

⏭️ 4- John Cockerill

DQ1000 = “5 MW”

• Nominal H2 flow 1000 Nm³/h (2136 kg/day)
• Flow range 40% - 100%
• Delivery pressure 30 bar (g) without compression

⏭️ 5- Longi

LHy-A1500 = “7.5 MW”

a- Net Production Rate 1500 Nm3/h
b- Delivery Pressure 16 (Adjustable) barg
c- Production Capacity Range 25%-115%
d- Operation Temperature 90+/- 5 ℃

⏭️ 6- Sunfire

HYLINK ALKALINE = “10 MW”

• Net production rate 2,165 Nm3 /h 195 kg/h
• Production capacity dynamic range 25 % -100 %
• Delivery pressure 30 bar (g) without additional compression
• Ambient temperature 5 °C - 40 °C

• H2 product pressure at electrolyzer outlet ~ 300 mbar
• Operating temperature up to 90 °C
